CHROMA GRAPHICS CtP WORKFLOW DESIGN
BRISQUE 5.0 LINKED WITH PRINERGY EL & EVO CONCEPT -
THE FIRST REVOLUTIONARY BREAKTHROUGH IN PREPRESS TECHNOLOGY

What are the common things that can be found in Chroma Graphics's CtP workflows? Besides using the same vendor Kodak, speed and reliability of the rasterizing machine is what we are looking for.

Currently, we run 2 major CtP workflows from Kodak namely the Brisque and Prinergy. Both are capable of generating a 1 Bit Tiff but the RIPs are not connected directly to our Plate Setters to ensure that we have the least down time and also to allow the RIP to be more productive.

With this setup, our Brisque is able to produce 2 separate 1 Bit Tiff files at the same time while the Prinergy Evo and EL can generate 3 separate 1 Bit Tiff files at the same time, although the Prinergy EVO is less powerful than the Prinergy EL, it is still one of the latest written RIP software in the Prinergy family, until Kodak launch the new Prinergy version 3.0. So far, Prinergy EVO has proven to be able to produce reliable normalized PDF files.

Chroma Graphics can produce and diagnose PDF files much better because we now have both the Brisque and the Prinergy. PDF files that are created from Prinergy can be sent into the Brisque for analyzing purposes and if the result is positive, it will prove that this PDF file will be very reliable when supplied to either our customers or the respective printers. However, PDF files are only normalized files and do not contain information such as DPI (dots per inch) or LPI (lines per inch). Ultimately, the printer has to match our CtP wet proofs that we have generated through our Workflows, and this will depend on the power of the printer's Ripping system and capabilities of their workflows. Elements such as overprinting or knockouts, even if they have been embedded in the PDFs cannot be properly utilized if the printer is running on an older or lower version. Hence, that will present a problem during printing in their bids and efforts to match our CtP wet proofs.

Prinergy EL is the latest product that Chroma Graphics has purchased. It contains 2 servers, the main server (4 CPUs) and the Rendering Station (2 CPUs). When they are in action, it will utilize the full resources of both systems (6 CPUs) in normalizing and rendering of the high res 1 Bit Tiff files. Printers can also match our CtP wet proofs with ease now with our new systems but will still be subjected to the same version and capability of their Workflow.

Apart from being able to speed up the Ripping, the EL is also able to perform Versioning that is gradually growing in demand, especially for co - edition projects. We can now combine and produce a co-edition PDF that we use to plot on our Thermal plates and make CtP Wet Proofs. This system also further enhances the WYSIWYG concept (What You See Is What You Get).

This versioned PDF can also be used to output Docucolor Digital proofs, which is the last stage of production to ensure that the CDs or DVDs containing these final PDF files have been security checked.

All 3 RIPs hold their own queue lines and are able to perform basic functions like trapping and even impositioning. Chroma Graphics is now able to hold our own fort and will have greater computing power with full technical support from our System which is now far more superior and very reliable.

Technical Performance of the System is basically configured as follows:

Technical Performance of the System is basically configured as follows:
  • Brisque 64E
4 inputs (PS /PDFs) and 2 outputs (1 Bit Tiff)
  • Prinergy EVO
  1 input (PS / PDFs) and 1 output ( 1 Bit Tiff)
  • Prinergy EL -
3 inputs (PS /PDFs) and 2 outputs (1 Bit Tiff)

IMPORTANT NOTICE

Despite our efforts, the continued research and installation of the most advanced and high performance equipment by Chroma Graphics, it is still important that respective printers who work with us using our systematic and well structured PDF files, have to ensure that their system is comparable and compatible to the current workflow demands. It is beyond Chroma Graphics control if problems on press occur because of technical incapacity on their system.
